Layla Alter, LMSW
I am a psychodynamic, EMDR trained therapist who works with adolescents, young adults, and adults - navigating the turbulence of relationships, embodiment, body image, and self-leadership in the digital age. I help you find calm, regulate your nervous system, and build a felt sense of safety inside your own body and mind. I'm especially drawn to supporting you as you grow into who you are at your core, separate from what society tells you to be, while it looks like everyone around you has already figured it out (They haven't.) My approach is holistic and body-centered.
We’ll work with the mind, the body, and the parts of yourself that are easy to talk about, as well as the parts that aren’t. I draw on IFS and EMDR, including inner child work that often lives beneath trauma. As an avid meditator, I may incorporate mindfulness, breath work, and gentle restorative yoga to support nervous system regulation.
So much of modern life is designed to pull you out of your body and into a screen. Therapy with me is a deliberate interruption of that - we slow down and get curious about what's underneath the noise: the patterns, the images, the feelings that don't have words yet. My style is warm, creative, and deeply collaborative. If this resonates, I'd love to connect
I offer therapy in person in Brooklyn and online.
I'm available weekdays and evenings.
